We went to the pumpkin patch with Cara’s school this week. Luckily, we weren’t rained out!

Our garden is growing! So many things are starting to break the surface of the soil. Cara was very proud to give grandma a tour yesterday–and I was very proud that she could tell grandma what each plant was! Roma tomatos: Pumpkins: Cucumbers: Cherry: Strawberries, the only thing we didn’t grow from seed:

I spoke too soon about faring best out of all of us in the illness department. Three days ago I lost my voice, and it has yet to come back. Yesterday was the worst day for me so far, so hopefully I’m on the mend! The girls seem to be much better. Anyhow, I did [...]

Well, Thanksgiving is over and I’m almost done cooking. I’m on my second turkey, which I was supposed to do yesterday but never quite got around to. That’s OK, because my cousin did two! For yesterday’s celebration I did dressing and mashed potatoes, and also made some Gluhwein. Sipping on that made cooking that much [...]

On the subject of pumpkins, here are the first pumpkins I’ve ever grown: So, I managed to get three out of my little garden this year. One has already been baked and added to one of the seven batches of pumpkin soup I made over the weekend. I had quite a sense of accomplishment cooking [...]

The last two days have been heaven for the girls; plenty of activities to sink their little hands into! My sister was a little incredulous when I said I’d never let the girls play with shaving cream. It’s apparently a big activity around her house, but it’s nothing that would have ever occurred to me [...]

I know that’s a sentiment usually reserved for Christmas, but for me, it’s Autumn. I love everything about this season, not least of all our annual trip to Oak Glen. I’ve been going to Oak Glen with my family since I was a child. I first took Todd in 2003, and we have made the [...]

So it’s about time for a few more garden pictures. My pumpkins are turning orange: I’m only going to end up with three, it looks like. I’m a little disappointed, but I’ve learned a lot about growing pumpkins this year, so I know what to do differently next year. I was a little disheartened to [...]

We go to the Farmers’ Market every Saturday and Wednesday. It’s where we do the vast majority of our shopping, and it’s a ritual I look forward to all the other days of the week. This is what we picked up today, minus the chicken, which was already in a pot by the time I [...]
My Pumpkins! Again!

Is it obvious that I’ve never grown pumpkins before, but have ALWAYS wanted to? I have really fond memories of growing vegetables with my family as a child (my dad, in particular). I remember growing tomatoes, artichokes, asparagus, and strawberries, which never made it in the house with yours truly around. So, here’s yet another [...]
